Apprenticeships and traineeships

Investing in training through an apprenticeship or traineeships can deliver real benefits in your business. They are formal training arrangements between an employer and an employee and can lead to your employee obtaining a nationally recognised qualification.

Courses and qualifications

There are many formal courses and qualifications that can help you or your employees develop the skills you need in your business.

Before you enrol in a course, make sure it’s being delivered by a registered training organisation (RTO). RTOs must meet nationally recognised standards of quality and deliver nationally recognised training. There are around 5000 RTOs in Australia, all offering different types of training.

Training workshops and events

There are many free and low cost workshops, events and seminars provided by all levels of government, including local councils. Search our Event Finder for one near you.

Mentoring

Mentoring can be an effective way to develop your skills and your employees' skills at little or no cost.

Mentoring can be performed informally between two co-workers with different levels of experience. It's a great way to support productive relationships in the workplace and to encourage your more experienced employees to develop supervisor skills.

You can also use mentoring to learn new skills from successful business people. You can find a mentor yourself through your networks, or You can also search our Grant Finder for government funded mentoring programmes in your area.

On the job training

On the job training is any training that takes place in your workplace. It can include training from a supervisor or another employee. You can use existing workplace skills and knowledge to educate your employees on different areas of your business.
